On October 1st, four-star basketball prospect Kiyan Anthony announced his top three schools, Auburn, USC, and his father's Alma Mater, Syracuse.

If you didn't know already, Kiyan's father is ten-time NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony. Carmelo is responsible for leading Syracuse to its only NCAA championship in 2003. Carmelo finished the tournament with the most points, 121, as a freshman. Former Thunder Forward Nick Collison considers Carmelo Anthony the greatest freshman in college basketball history. Collison.

"He's as good a freshman that's ever played college basketball," said Collison

You can't mention Syracuse basketball without bringing up Carmelo Anthony, says Syracuse University junior Charlie Wilson.

"Carmelo is the most goated Syracuse player of all time. He is by far the most famous. He's who I knew before I even got to Syracuse. He's the jersey I got when I came here. Half the jerseys in the crowd at games are his jerseys,"  said Wilson.

Since the 2003 championship, Syracuse has had its fair share of tournament runs, making the final four twice, once in 2013 and once in 2016.

However, the Orange have failed to make March Madness in the last three seasons. This is Syracuse's longest streak of not making the NCAA tournament from 1967 to 1972.

The team had seemed to be going on a one-way ticket to rock bottom after Jim Boheim retired in 2023, but Kiyan could be the solution we need to save Syracuse basketball's legacy, says Syracuse Senior Tyler Wenning

"It would be awesome if his son came here. It would be a legacy continued. Carmelo has a building here that he donated because he's the man like that. This Program meant a lot to him and I hope Kiyan comes here so he can continue the legacy, said Wenning."

ESPN has Kiyan ranked as the 36 ranked player in the class of 2026 and sixth shooting guard overall. His stock began to soar back in after his performance at the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) Top 100 Camp in Orlando.

Before the showcase, there were speculations about Kiyan's efficiency. In his junior season for number-2 ranked Long Island Lutheran High School, he averaged 9.5 points per game.

Kiyan made sure to put the critics on notice in the first game of camp, dropping 42 points in 25 minutes and going 15-for-28 from the field.

Syracuse has not produced an All-Star player since Carmelo, so it would only make sense for Kiyan to end that streak. He plans to announce his commitment before the start of his senior season.
